Do you heat-style your hair? Never make these mistakes!

Hello to all hair freaks!

Many of us like to style the hair, apply various setting products and create sophisticated hairdos. That’s great but there’s one important question to be answered: do we do it the right way? If not, what mistakes do we tend to make? Read today’s post to know it all.

Incorrect temperature of a blow-dryer

Heat is likely to cause serious damage to hair. It makes hair cuticle scales raise so hair is highly-porous, dry and dull. To make things worse, you might even burn the scalp or ear lobes. That’s the very reason why we need to set the right temperature of a tool before the blow-dry, straightening or curling routine. Also, remember not to blow dry the hair immediately after a wash and always use a heat protectant prior to heat styling.

Bend over and blow dry?

This trick does speed up blow-dry time and make hair voluminous but if you’ve got high-porosity damaged hair, the dryer will open the cuticle scales. What’s the result? Straw-like flyaways. All in all, try to blow dry your hair in line with its direction of growth.

Not combing out hair before washing

To avoid problems while washing or styling the hair, comb it out first. Detangle the strands and get rid of knots. It’s a saver especially for thin, weak hair  because you won’t be tugging it while washing whereas application of products will be effortless.

Too much of a styling product

Too much of a good thing. This saying also applies to hairstyling products. We shouldn’t use mousses, hairsprays, pomades, etc. on a daily basis. Why? This type of products might cause irritation, dry out scalp and hair, make tresses limp. Use them only from time to time.

Tugging hair…

… while towel-drying, washing, brushing. If you’re not gentle, you’re very likely to seriously damage the hair. Besides, tugging the hair with a towel may trigger static and frizz as well as open the cuticle scales.

Hair-damaging accessories

Are you aware that even an ordinary hair elastic may cause damage to your hair? I mean metal clasps in such accessories. Various ties and gadgets are likely to weaken the hair structure because strands catch on such elements.
