I guess every woman comes to a point in her life when she wants to go natural. I mean natural skin and hair care. It’s hands down the right decision but how to get round to it?
Let me tell you about natural beauty care beginnings. It’s not as simple as it seems so don’t throw yourself in at the deep end.
Let’s first investigate why actually change the habits. There are lots of reasons:
- natural care is better, healthier, more pleasurable;
- natural cosmetics don’t cause damage to skin or hair;
- natural ingredients help tackle many skin conditions;
- it’s easier to tailor natural solutions to our needs;
- nature-derived products let us display our creativity;
- natural cosmetics are eco-friendly.
When to go natural?
There’s always a good moment for turning to natural skin and hair care. The key thing is you make conscious choices, skipping some passing fads. If “my friends do it so I want as well” is your trigger for change, I’d advise you to wait a bit longer. The only good reason for turning to the natural side is willingness to give the skin and hair better suited products.
I was mature enough to take this decision a few months ago. Even though the beginnings were sometimes tough and I had some doubts when my hair refused to cooperate, I have no regrets.
Change for the better. How to get round to it?
Forget about radical changes (I didn’t, my bad). Be systematic instead. A sudden change of all “evil” products for the natural ingredients might be too shocking for the skin, hair and even for ourselves. What’s the point in getting things complicated?
Let’s not throw out all products at once. If they’ve worked fine for you and haven’t done any damage, you can use them up and only then go for nature. By gradually introducing new cosmetics to daily routine, we can safely and gently go through the changes, as well as it’s easier to notice whether a given product works for us or not.
Natural beauty products. What to choose for a start?
The first products we use to begin the skin and hair care makeover determine if we’re going to feel discouraged at the very beginning or not.
I DON’T RECOMMEND starting with hair care products because the difference between the effect of a regular shampoo or conditioner and its natural competitor is huge. The lack of silicones means more problematic detangling and hair feeling coarse whereas lack of detergents in a shampoo may give you a feeling of unwashed hair. Let’s take our time and introduce them gradually e.g. by using natural oils for hair and scalp.
I RECOMMEND soaps, scrubs, bath washes and body lotions. Let’s choose the ones made of natural ingredients, based on vegetable oils and herbal extracts. If the components are balanced (similar quantity of moisturising and lubricating substances), we shouldn’t feel any discomfort. If we feel anything, it’s hands down a change for the better!
Natural face care? Be careful!
I recommend being cautious in terms of face care. Why so? The skin on the face is extremely sensitive and easily irritated.
Be reasonable while shopping for eco-friendly face products. The cheapest ones usually have the poorest-quality ingredients so the risk of poor effect is very high. If products contain alcohol (some herbs are macerated in it), you’re likely to end up with skin irritation. I advise you to look through the list of ingredients and make sure the product has high quality before purchasing a natural moisturizer, serum or face cleanser.
5 Rules for turning to natural hair and skin care
Time for a sum-up 🙂
I think that natural care is worth a shot. Even more so because nowadays natural, eco-friendly products are increasing in popularity and no longer resemble some green pulp in an ugly jar. We’re now spoilt for choice so each of us can find the right natural cosmetic made for her.
On the other hand, if we don’t want to get discouraged (natural care doesn’t give instant effect), we should follow these five simple rules. How to enhance the looks naturally?
- Keep it simple. Look through all products you’ve got and keep just the ones you really use.
- Don’t replace all products right away. Use up the ones you have and gradually introduce natural cosmetics.
- Learn to analyze the composition. If you know which ingredients to avoid at all costs, the choice of cosmetics will be easier.
- Don’t get discouraged. Natural skin and hair products work more slowly (and more effectively!) but don’t get dismayed by the lack of immediate results.
- Dare to experiment! Not every natural cosmetic works for everyone so don’t be afraid of changes and trying various options.
