Scalp oil treatment. What are the best oils for skin on the head?

Believe it or not, applying a greasy oil to skin on your head may let you hold back scalp oiliness and keep hair fresh longer.

At first I felt a bit skeptical about the idea of scalp oil treatment. I knew that quite a lot of bloggers follow this kind of scalp care but I still had some doubts and worries about oils making my dandruff-prone scalp even worse.

I changed my mind after getting a scalp oil treatment done by my hairdresser friend 🙂 I realized there was nothing to be scared of; on the contrary, the oil turned out to work wonders, improving the condition of my skin and the appearance of hair. Then, I immersed into the topic and got crazy about scalp oil treatments 😀

Now, I’m ready and willing to share my thoughts on the best oils for scalp treatment.

Why should you do scalp oil treatment?

I’ll begin by answering the most popular question you ask. Why apply oils to scalp? Believe me, a well-suited vegetable oil is able to work wonders, improve the condition of scalp and enhance the looks of hair much better than a luxury steep-priced mask.

You should use scalp treatments because oils:

  • strengthen hydro-lipid layer of skin;
  • ensure the sufficient level of moisture;
  • control the level of produced sebum;
  • restore the skin’s natural pH level.

and are all-natural, safe and rich in healthy fatty acids, minerals, vitamins and plant sterols! <3

Scalp oil treatment effect

I’m perfectly aware that the easiest way to assess a product is checking the effect it brings when used regularly. So, what are the benefits of oils for scalp?

  • Before I started using oils, my scalp was extremely irritated and prone to dandruff. I couldn’t get rid of the problem, neither anti-dandruff shampoos nor scrubs helped. I guess that was the reason why my hair started falling out and even thinning.
  • After the first use, I noticed my skin was calmer and irritation was relieved. Hair after a blow-dry got softer, smoother and shinier. Still, dandruff was back in a moment and skin got itchy again.
  • After applying an oil to scalp for nearly two weeks, all my hair-related problems started to disappear. Dandruff stopped recurring, the skin wasn’t itchy, hair was no longer thinning and it got stronger. Regular application of oils made my scalp richer in nutrients and moisture.

Now, I wouldn’t change my hair for anything as it’s long, thick, strong and luminous whereas the skin is problem-free!

Which oils are best for scalp care?

Without doubts, the effects depend on the oil we use. Not every oil works for scalp. To be more precise, some oils won’t bring satisfactory effects on scalp because they work better for hair or face skin.

Here’s my round-up of the best oils for scalp treatment.

Mustard oil: it’s extracted from the seeds of mustard which ensures diversity of vitamins and minerals (incl. antiaging vitamin E and zinc). Mustard oil has an amazing effect on scalp because it increases blood flow, soothes inflammation and moisturizes.

Castor oil: it’s one of the best-known and cheapest oils. You can purchase it virtually everywhere. It’s thick and regularly rubbing it into scalp stimulates growth, reduces hair loss and irritations, as well as eliminates dandruff.

Burdock oil: it’s a valuable source of vitamins and natural substances that promote hair growth. It has bacteriostatic and antifungal effect, as well as prevents inflammation. It contains sulfur which enhances hair repair and reduces dandruff.

Fenugreek oil: it’s pressed from the seeds of fenugreek plant that I’ve recently used for making a scalp conditioner smelling of chicken soup. Fenugreek oil has an amazing conditioning effect on irritated scalp and eliminates itchiness yet it mostly reduces dandruff.

Tea oil: tea tree oil has been always used for skin disinfection and healing. It does have antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties, and that’s why it works very well for scalp bothered by dandruff, lice and other infections.

Rosemary oil: it’s another essential oil which is famous for its health benefits. Applying this oil to scalp is an easy way to block hair loss and do away with dandruff. It brings relief to dry flaky scalp.
